On October 27, the opening of my doctoral exhibition “The Birth of Colors” took place at the Orangery of the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace in Wilanów.
The transition from the Museum of the Earth to the Orangery in Wilanów, where the second part of the doctoral exhibition “The Birth of Colors” was presented, I perceive as a continuation of a process of transformation — from interior to exterior, from the weight of stone matter to the lightness of light, air, and open space.
In the Orangery, a daily ritual of sunlight unfolds — always different. It is a place that honors painting. Each work, as well as the entire cycle, could fully exist in color within this symphony of light. The colors merged into a polyphony of resonances with music. The paintings, arranged in a straight line facing the light, were exposed from dawn to dusk to full sunlight. In this way, a cosmological process — the movement of the sun, the cyclicity of day and night — became embedded in the structure of the exhibition.
During the opening, the Museum’s Directors — Paweł Jaskanis and Prof. Dorota Folga-Januszewska — spoke about history, evolution, elements, genius loci, colors in architecture, multisensoriality, light organs, Alfred Lenica, hearing colors, the frequency of a favorite hue, synesthesia, neuromuseology, and more. I listened, trying to remember every word, aware that these were additional essential elements in the narrative of “The Birth of Colors,” forming a network of connections.
…After the opening, I had the great pleasure of conducting a seminar “Hearing Color / Seeing Sound” with students of Prof. Dorota Folga-Januszewska.
