Welcoming the Pegasi Back at the Warsaw Autumn Music Festival | Sept 2024

Date: 28/09/2024

On September 28, a ceremonial Welcoming Back of the Pegasi took place at Pole Mokotowskie!

After more than a decade at Plac Krasińskich, the Pegasi have flown to a new location. Restored, they have already been grazing for some time at Pole Mokotowskie, right next to the National Library.

Together with Beata Konarska and the International Festival of Contemporary Music Warsaw Autumn, we invited Warsaw residents of all ages to join the celebration on the meadow at 213 Niepodległości Avenue:

11:00–13:00

Official Welcoming of the Pegasi: live screen printing / the sixth Pegasus

To mark the occasion, a special graphic design by Beata Konarska was created, which visitors could print using screen-printing techniques — independently or with the support of artists from the Kwiaciarnia Grafiki studio.
During painting workshops led by Beata Konarska, we also created a new, sixth Pegasus — slightly smaller than the others, yet far more colorful. The painted Pegasus will be placed in the reading rooms of the National Library. The Pegasi were officially welcomed by Tomasz Makowski, Director of the National Library.

13:00

International Festival of Contemporary Music Warsaw Autumn: premiere of the composition “Pegasi” by Krzysztof Cybulski as part of the Space®opera project, along with a performance and happening “Collective Flying with Pegasi”

The composition “Pegasi” by Krzysztof Cybulski is a sound-and-text narrative about one of Warsaw’s most characteristic urban sculptures.

To celebrate the Welcoming Back of the Pegasi, students presented a performance developed during workshops with Beata Konarska in collaboration with Monika Szulc, inspired by the history and symbolism of Pegasus. Following the performance, during the premiere of the composition, the event continued with:

Collective Flying with Pegasi

Tired of everyday life and feel like flying for a moment? Overwhelmed by stress, rush, crises, wars, ecological catastrophe, school, university, work?
Krzysztof Cybulski’s composition lasts 3 minutes — the perfect time to take flight with its sounds. All you need are the wings of imagination. You can fly however your body and soul guide you — statically or dynamically. Walking, jumping, dancing, moving your arms and legs, or simply lying down, sitting, or standing and soaring in your imagination.

Our collective flight was fully inclusive — for anyone who needs a moment of escape from reality or is simply curious what it feels like to fly together with others on a beautiful meadow among Pegasi. Three minutes of lift-off!

You are warmly invited!
